About Kokoro Tea

Rooted in Uji. Refined for Every Day.

Kokoro Tea was founded on a single conviction: that the most meaningful rituals are also the most everyday ones. We source exclusively from Uji, Japan — the birthplace of Japanese green tea and home to over eight centuries of cultivation tradition — because origin is not a detail. It is everything.

Why Uji

Uji sits at the confluence of three rivers south of Kyoto, where the climate, soil, and morning mist create conditions unmatched anywhere else on earth. Japan's first tea seeds arrived here in the 12th century, and Uji farmers have refined their craft ever since. Our matcha is made exclusively from the first harvest — ichibancha — hand-picked in early spring when the leaves are most tender, most vibrant, and most alive with the season.

We work directly with growers who shade their plants for weeks before harvest, coaxing out the deep umami and vivid color that define ceremonial-grade matcha. No blending. No shortcuts. Just the tea as it should be.

The Daily Ritual

Tea ceremony — chado, the way of tea — is not reserved for special occasions. At its heart, it is a practice of presence: slowing down, attending to each small step, and finding beauty in repetition. Kokoro Tea brings that spirit into the rhythms of daily life.

Every accessory we curate is chosen to support that intention — from the bamboo chasen that aerates and froths your bowl to the vessels that hold and honor the tea. Each object has a purpose. Each preparation is an act of care.

Authenticity, Simply

We keep our range curated on purpose. A small, considered collection means every product meets the same standard: traceable origin, proven craft, genuine ceremonial use. We would rather offer fewer things done properly than many things done quickly.

Kokoro — heart, mind, spirit — is the word Japanese uses when it means all three at once. It is the quality we look for in our sourcing, and the quality we hope you find in every cup.
